i have brown or golden spots on glass and fake plants 55 gallon tank?
i just bought 55 gallon tank two weeks ago. I placed fake plants and rocks in tank,put 10 started fish in from walmart. My tank sets by the window. why do i have brown golden spots in tank on plants and glass
Hi.
This is a common occurrence with new tank set ups, it will deteriorate as the tank establishes itself. It's happening because of the "cycle" your tank is going through. At the moment you will have to manually clean it off.
Having a tank near a window isn't advisable, it encourages algae growth, you will be forever cleaning algae off the glass and any other plants, decorations etc.
Any constant addition of an algae removal chemical will be detrimental to your fish. It is a quick fix not one that should be a permanent solution.
If you have nowhere to move your tank to then I suggest an ultra violet steriliser would be a good addition to your tank set up. Ultra violet sterilisers kill any floating algae that passes through the unit, it also eliminates most diseases and parasites if flow rate is correct. You can get internal units that have there own powerhead (relatively cheep nowadays) or external units that need to be connected to a pump or canister.
Keep at it, your doing the right thing asking questions.
