Can anyone suggest authors for a rather fussy elderly lady who likes "civilized" mystery and suspense?
This lady really has no tolerance for any gratuitous sex, overly explicit violence, much swearing, etc so hard boiled crime novels are out. She's very old fashioned and more up for the cozies, but nothing too inane. She has enjoyed works by Agatha Christie and Margery Allingham. Ngaio Marsh was okay except she found the characters' behavior to be "too silly"for her taste. I recently introduced her to Beaton's Hamish Macbeth and Bowen's Constable Evans both of which which she enjoys and also The Cadfael series which she REALLY loves... but now I need to find something else. Cadfael was the big win here for some reason. She really likes that series. Any suggestions on what to pick up for her next?
A lot of older ladies seem to like the "Cat Who" books. It's a series of mystery books that all begin with "The Cat Who..." Also, does she read the Bible? I hope not because it's filled with gratuitous sex, and overly explicit violence. If she's really so fussy and "civilized" maybe tell her to write her own damn book and see if she can do any better.
