Why does my parakeet get in her dish and scratch all the food out?
I have an 8 or 9 year old female parakeet and until the last month she never did this. She sits in her dish and starts scratching like a chicken and pushes all her food out of the dish. She is the only bird and has never been with another bird so it isn't nesting. Please help, she is driving me nuts.
It just could be looking for certain seed's it likes or it could mean your bird is bored......Sh!tless.
Maybe put a small bowl of seed on the bottom of its cage as a play toy, and it might stop throwing food out of its bowl.
There are plenty of budgie toys at good pet shops.
My Rainbow Lori loves to dig, whether it be sand, pot plants, bowl of seed, sugar bowl or anything similar.
