Jehovah Witness' wedding etiquette?
Next month I will be marrying into my fiance's Jehovah's Witness family. Neither of us are witnesses, but my soon-to-be parents in-law are hosting the event so there are rules we need to abide by if they finaince it. Well, last week I ordered a couple hundred toasting flutes for the toast and guess what? Toasting at weddings goes against Jehovah God. My question is why is it wrong and what are some other things I should know so I dont make a mistake like this again?
PS I already booked an officiant from court
I decided to turn the flutes into wedding favors by putting something like truffles in them and adding ribbon
I would ask them but I'm afraid I will get trapped in bible study for a couple hours
The reason why toasting is not looked upon favorably by Jehovah's Witnesses is because of the origin....it has a pagan origin that supposedly brought good luck upon the couple and warded off the demons. Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe in 'luck' as a protector or as a means to better oneself.
For the most part, everything else should be fine. JW's may or may not drink at a wedding; that would be a personal choice. Dancing is usually the highlight....yes we DO dance...lol...sometimes, a bit TOO much! The only caveat I will add is that you won't want to be 'dirty dancing' so to speak...other than that...enjoy your wedding! Congrats!
