if you keep up with pricescope http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/ , which sets the diamond trends, right now the august vintage cushion is all the rage. But i notice that the pear shaped diamond, which was popular in the 50/60s (think liz taylor) is popping up more and more.
i predict that the pear diamond is the next big thing.

good old gold and whiteflash need to cut some exquisite pears. they are diamond cutters - cutting edge in the diamond industry.
if you are partial to asscher cuts have you seen the octavia? drool. they face up small though- due to the high crown a 1 carat faces up like a 1/2 carat

Definitely.
People are becoming a lot more informed about diamonds, realizing there are shapes beyond rounds and princesses.
Also, alternatives to the traditional engagement ring are more acceptable now so one is fond of looking off the beaten path to achieve something unique and personal.
Pears are very attractive, I could see them replacing the princess trend. I have to agree I'm tired of the princess, it's become far too trendy. The brides of today will definitely be dated to this decade. Personally, I'm partial to rounds, gotta love a classic.
That octavia is pretty drool worthy, but I don't think it will ever become a leading trend, mostly because the consumer doesn't want to put the money forward for something that looks smaller than it's comparably priced counterparts. It's pretty and special, but not that special.
