vintage singer 449 sewing machine help?
hi i have a vintage 1960s singer model 449 sewing machine but i keep having the same problem evertytime i go to sew just a basic straight stich, the thread from the needle starts it wrap it's self round thebobbin as i try and sew and the fabric and thread seems to always end up bunching under the feed plate. have cleaned and oiled the machine and it still keeps happening.
also have a dodgy switch when trying to wind up a bobbin, it won't click to the right so the bobbin case spins as i put my foot on the pedal.
any help would be great.
First thing I would do is replace the needle. Then I'd check for broken needle parts in there, sounds like the thread is catching on something. Check your phone book for a Singer repair shop, since it is a simple machine should be easy to get fixed.
Singer might also help you, check the site for a manual, they might have one. Or try calling them, they have some very nice ladies working there I personally have spoken to.
